An important decision

Fellow patriots,

I have a very important decision to make, and I need your advice.

Since I first came to Lansing, I’ve strived to fulfill the expectations of the people of the 44th District and to always work my hardest for them.

I’m proud of my legislative accomplishments, including, most recently, legislation I authored to properly balance the privacy rights of citizens with the public’s right to information regarding police body camera footage, which passed both chambers unanimously and awaits the governor’s signature.

As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Second Amendment Caucus, it was my honor and privilege to advance legislation to restore the Second Amendment rights of citizens, including the right to carry a handgun in a safe, nonthreatening manner. I scheduled prompt hearings on right-to-carry legislation and supported it as it passed the House.

As a Vice Chairman of the Families, Children, and Seniors Committee, I’ve worked tirelessly to reform the legal process to help ensure all children are raised by loving families.

And I have made many efforts to ensure that federal and state laws are enforced and that our interests as Americans and Michiganders are always put first. Last year, I introduced a bill to punish so-called “sanctuary” cities that refuse to uphold immigration laws, and anonther to prohibit our tax dollars being given to companies that use illegal labor.

I look forward to many more important legislative projects in the remainder of my term.

But now I face a difficult decision.

You see, Senator Mike Kowall will retire from the Senate next year, and I am seriously considering running for the open seat.

Due to term limits, I may only seek one more two-year term in the State House.

If elected to the state Senate, I would be able to serve and advocate for the people of Michigan in a greater and continued capacity.

I believe very strongly in my philosophy of government:

  • I believe that the free market is the greatest engine of prosperity, and no government scheme can do any better.
  • I believe that the Constitution and Bill of Rights are the greatest political documents written by Man.
  • I believe that property rights should always be protected and taxes kept as low as possible.
  • I believe human life is sacred, begins at conception, and should always be defended.

I would like to continue advancing this philosophy in our State government.

But running for state Senate is a great effort, and I cannot make this effort alone.

Friends, I need to know that if I am to undertake this effort, I can count on your continued support.

I need to know – right now – that I will have the resources to be financially competitive.

Please click this link to make a contribution – $100, $50, or any amount you can, to support my campaign and encourage me to seek higher office.

Both the donation total and the number of individual donors will be an important consideration for me – and potentially, for any opponent.

If you cannot contribute financially, but still wish to support my campaign, please take a moment to let me know if you are able to volunteer in some capacity.

In particular, the Fourth of July parade is coming up, and I would be very grateful if you are available and willing to march with me in the parade. Art Thomm of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action will join us at the after-party.

Whether you contribute financially, or with your time, I will be so grateful for your encouragement and support.

So many of you have blessed my efforts with your time, talent, and treasure. Thank you all so much for all that you do. It really means the world to me.

Without your help, I would have never been able to serve in Lansing.

If you would like to see me represent you in a greater capacity, please click here to make a generous contribution to my campaign. (If I decide to run for Senate, campaign funds are transferable.)

Thank you again for your continued support.

Together, let’s make Michigan even greater!

Sincerely,

Representative Jim Runestad

P.S. I need to make a decision soon. If you would support my effort should I decide to run for State Senate, please make a donation to my campaign today!
